Every year, the Altoona Mirror selects athletes from different schools in the coverage area for First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention. For boys soccer, senior Gavin Lamborn and junior Kade Black were selected for First Team.

“I was picked based on my performance because I was a key contributor for the team,” Lamborn said.

“I was selected for my skill and devotion to win,” Black said.

Soccer coach David McCarter is proud of Lamborn and Black.

“It is an honor because they were selected to be in the top 11 of all boys soccer players in the Mirror coverage area. They had to be effective leaders and players in order to be considered for this honor. They both did a fantastic job this year and they both were the top goals and assists leaders on the team,” McCarter said.

Lamborn and Black have been playing soccer since they were young and have memories that they’ll always remember.

“My best soccer memory is scoring my first goal in the district final as a sophomore 30 seconds into the game,” Black said.

“For my club team we won division 1 last year which is one of the highest divisions you can get to. We won undefeated and I played almost every minute of every game. I just loved the experience. This season would be scoring in extra time against East Juniata,” Lamborn said.

According to Black, Lamborn shows leadership qualities.

“Gavin is a very coachable player and can adapt very quickly. He knows the game well. He is a leader,” Black said.

Lamborn enjoys playing his sport with Black.

“Kade is always driven and he is a very determined player who has a lot of skill and leadership quality,” Lamborn said.
