On Saturday, April 2, the track and field team will host their annual Igloo Invitational at Mansion Park. This will be the first meet of the season for the high school track and field team.

For many track and field athletes this will be the first meet they have competed regularly in nearly three years.

“As a freshman it’s a completely new experience for me so I’m excited to see how it changes from the junior high to high school,” freshman Branson Adams said.

Many coaches also look forward to seeing how their athletes compete.

“The first track meet is always a shot in the dark. You know you prepare for weeks and months so you never know where you compete. Then afterwards we base our training on the results of the first meet,” head coach Mike Adams said.

Last year, both teams went undefeated with a record of 7-0.

“It’s great to watch all of the runners give their best effort… I am really excited about the team that is coming back this year. I believe we will have a solid team this year to compete,” assistant coach Caleb Marasco said.

Coaches and athletes look forward to competing with their teammates and friends.

“I’m looking forward to getting better at shot and javelin. Another thing is getting to hangout with friends, since a lot of people do track. I think track is the most fun sport you can do at our highschool,” senior Logan Kline said.

Seniors have set goals for going to states.

“…I’m also hoping to run some big PRs and hopefully make it to States,” senior George Boutiller said.

“I am looking forward to competing and hopefully making it to states this year, since I came short last year,” senior Rebecca Dull said.
