Williamson creates bingeworthy vampire series

Since 2009, “Vampire Diaries” have produced a total of eight seasons and each left the viewers wanting more. The show has been nominated for 114 awards and won 39 in a span of eight years. “Vampire Diaries” brought a new, unseen story to the supernatural television audience. The dynamic and descriptive plot had millions- including myself- invested.

“Vampire Diaries” is about a girl named Elena Gilbert who has lost both of her parents in a car crash, so she is living with her brother Jeremy Gilbert and aunt Jenna Sommers. The season begins with her going about her day like any other teenage girl, but she is still saddened about her parents’ death that summer and often visits their graves after school. This is the least of Elena’s worries which are uncovered throughout the seasons.

Elena meets challenges with her best friends by her side: Bonnie Bennett and Caroline Forbes. Two brothers named Stefan and Damon Salvatore are also introduced, who are both vampires. Stefan is a cool, calm and collected person with a dark past; however, Damon is very carefree and arrogant. He does things differently than Stefan and likes causing trouble and tension within the group.  They all have to come together though as forces of the supernatural work against them.

Kevin Williamson, the writer of “Vampire Diaries”, has written many popular movies. This includes- but is not limited to- Scream Series, Cursed, Venom, and Cursed. Comparing these wonderful works, they all have one thing in common. Horror is a frequently seen theme included in Williamson’s productions. One thing the “Vampire Diaries” producers did tremendously was picking their actors. Each actor fit the role perfectly and matched with their co-stars well.

By the end of the show it was averaging around 1 million viewers and that shows a lot. Many have compared the show to “Twilight” which was a hit movie released a year before “Vampire Diaries” started. I think some of it adds up together like the werewolves transforming into wolves but “Twilight” doesn’t stay true to folklore like “Vampire Diaries” does. For example, in “Twilight”, vampires can be in the sun with no effect but in “Vampire Diaries” they need magic in order to stay out in the sun. It’s the details “Vampire Diaries” brings to the screen that makes it that much better.

The show is exciting and always brings something new to the table. Vampire Diaries is unlike any other show and constantly keeps you on your toes. They have creative ways of introducing new things to the show and killing off characters in the show as well. The “Vampire Diaries” brought fresh, innovative ideas to the supernatural drama genre. The plot is not one you have to closely pay attention to, which is calming and exciting. It’s easy to follow which is something that makes this show that much more enjoyable.

“Vampire Diaries” is definitely worth watching. When someone starts a show, they are looking forward to enjoying it and connecting with the characters. That’s what Vampire Diaries brings to the television world. I give Vampire Diaries 4.5 out of 5 stars. It’s binge worthy, and you won’t want to stop watching.
