Youth and Government to hold voter registration drive

On Nov. 7, Pennsylvanians will head to the polls and cast their votes in the general election to fill the seats of numerous city officials and to elect judges that will serve on benches throughout the commonwealth.

Voting is not only important on the national level, but at the local level as well. Many students often disregard or simply don’t recognize the importance of voting; which is exactly why the Youth and Government club voter drives are so important. If you weren’t able to register this year, I strongly encourage you to do so whenever you can,” club member Julia Kline said.

In preparation of this upcoming election and the deadline to register being Oct. 23, throughout lunch during the week of Oct. 9, the youth and government club held a voter registration drive.

“With this voter drive we hope to get as many people registered as possible. Even if they’re not yet eligible, we want to inform them so less people become more interested in government,” club president Berkley Alexander said.

A representative of the club will be stationed at a table between the cafeterias with the necessary forms and information to help guide you through the process.

“I think it’s really important that we make this process easy and straightforward, so hopefully as many people as possible will vote,” club member Tasneim Babikier said.

After enjoying the intro to pub class so much last year (especially when we got into opinion writing!), I decided to join the news staff this year as a junior. Other than writing, I love reading, biking, running, listening to podcasts and being outdoors. After high school, I hope to go to college and law school and move to Pittsburgh. Until then, I can't wait to have a fantastic year writing for the Mountain Echo!
