Altoona Alumni Will Young wrestles in the neutral position in the meet against Tyrone.

The Hampton Duals wrestling tournament will be held on Dec. 8 at Hampton High School. The Hampton Duals tournament consists of five wrestling matches against different schools.

“We’re going to wrestle some great competition, and we’re going to take some losses over the weekend. It’s an opportunity to see where we’re weak and where we need work to get better. Our ultimate goal is always, and always has been, and always will be, the postseason in February,” Coach Joel Gilbert said.

Altoona went 1-4 last year taking the seventh spot out of 10 teams. Gilbert believes with the leadership of senior Wyatt Young, junior Luke Sipes and sophomores Braiden Weaver and sophomore Phillip Sarbo, they can have a good run this year and win a lot of matches.

Eric Weyant, Reporter
My name is Eric Weyant. I am a sophomore on the Mountain Echo and Horseshoe staff. I am a bass drummer in the band. When I'm not drumming, I'm playing basketball or cornhole. I'm very good at cornhole. In my first tournament, I placed in the top 5. I like playing with my family in Claysburg, and we enter tournaments together. I'm excited to tell you what's going on in the school this year.

Danielle Bardelang, Public Relations Manager
I am a senior at the Altoona Area High School and am the public relations manager for the Mountain Echo newspaper. I seek excellence in my academic and extracurricular pursuits. I began writing at a young age, but fell in love with it in eighth grade. I absolutely love anything art related. Writing and art allows me to express myself and tell a story through all I do. I enjoy twirling batons, and spending time with family and friends.  I am involved with many clubs and groups within the school such as student ambassadors, student council, band front and yearbook. During my senior year I am holding the titles of Majorette Captain, and Yearbook Editor-in-Chief.  "This is my life... my story... my book. I will no longer let anyone else write it; nor will I apologize for the edits I make." - Steve Maraboli.
