Senior organ donors offered graduation cord

A grant has been awarded to the school allowing them to give out special cords to 2024 graduates registered as organ donors. Seniors can receive this blue and green spiraled cord by showing Thomas Palfey proof that they are or plan to be an organ donor. With these cords, the school is hoping to promote awareness of organ donation and make information about it more accessible so students can make informed decisions.

“Again everybody has their own reason why or why not. I don’t really pick sides. It’s just something that someone can do if they want,” Palfey said.

Students will receive cords in the middle of May to promote education about organ donation and to encourage students to make their own informed decisions. Seniors can look out for emails from Assistant Principal Vince Nedimyer or Palfey if interested in getting the cord.

Danielle Bardelang, Public Relations Manager
I am a senior at the Altoona Area High School and am the public relations manager for the Mountain Echo newspaper. I seek excellence in my academic and extracurricular pursuits. I began writing at a young age, but fell in love with it in eighth grade. I absolutely love anything art related. Writing and art allows me to express myself and tell a story through all I do. I enjoy twirling batons, and spending time with family and friends.  I am involved with many clubs and groups within the school such as student ambassadors, student council, band front and yearbook. During my senior year I am holding the titles of Majorette Captain, and Yearbook Editor-in-Chief.  "This is my life... my story... my book. I will no longer let anyone else write it; nor will I apologize for the edits I make." - Steve Maraboli.
