ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, MARCH 11, 2024

The Bioedventures Club will be hosting a student hat day this Friday,
March 15 th to raise funds for our Galapagos Trip. Any AAHS student can pay
$1.00 to wear a hat on this day. Money will be collected before homeroom on the
bridge. YOU MUST PAY $1.00 and obtain a sticker to wear a hat all day.

Attention students: A representative of the Air National Guard will be here during
lunches this Wednesday, March 13 th to answer any questions you may have about
joining the Air National Guard. Please be sure to stop by if you would like more
information.

Attention Seniors applying for scholarships:  Friday, March 15 th  is
the deadline for many scholarships found in Guidance.  The scholarships are as
follows:  Horatio Alger Association Scholarship for JUNIORS only, the Big A Booster
Scholarship, the Class of 1971 Scholarship,  Because We Care Foundation for Criminal
Justice majors, the Because we Care Foundation for Early Child Development majors,
the Bessie Levine Memorial Scholarship, the Blair County Civic Music Foundation;
the Blair County United Survivor Scholarship, the Blair Gastroenterology
Associations Scholarship; The Linda L McGinnis Memorial Scholarship, the Blair Type 1
Diabetes Foundation Scholarship, The Captain Bob Gallardy scholarship for volunteer
firefighters, the Cove Adoptive Families scholarship, the CPCF Board of Directors
scholarship, the Hancock Group Employee Foundation Scholarship, the Scott Douglas
Sparks Scholarship, the Oakes Family Scholarship for those pursuing an accounting
degree, the Todd Gardner Sparks Performing Arts Scholarship, the Vince Frank
Memorial Scholarship for those attending either Penn State, Notre Dame, St.
Francis or Harrisburg University and finally the William Frank & Swiss Club
Scholarship.  Additionally, there are two scholarships with a deadline of Monday, March
18th and they are the Richard McEldowney Academic Scholarship for students that
volunteer, and the Angelo Gioiosa Memorial Scholarship for male crosscountry track
and field for at least 2 years.

Attention Seniors: Stop by the Guidance office to pick up an application for the
Lucy Johnson Scholarship. To be eligible for this award, applicants MUST have
financial need, be a person of color, be a resident of Altoona and be accepted to a US
College or Trade/Culinary School. Deadline for this Scholarship is April 8 th .

Attention Seniors: Announcing Thee Devon Pfirsching Scholarship. This Scholarship
will be awarded to 2 students. To be considered for this scholarship, you must
participate in a sport and/or club activity and have acceptance from post-secondary
education. Deadline for this application is April 8 th . Stop by for more information.

Attention Seniors: Do you have a parent who works in the flagstone, fieldstone or
bluestone industry? This would include working at a quarry, processing plant,
distribution yard, even office personnel and truck drivers qualify. If this applies to you,
then be sure to pick up The Dave Weaver Scholarship from the rack outside of
Guidance. Applications must be mailed or emailed by March 31 st .

Attention Juniors: Do you consider yourself a high-achiever and like to challenge
yourself? Have you ever considered going to West Point? If so, you may want to check
out West Point’s Summer Leaders Experience!  They are offering a one-week program
for Juniors to visit the campus, spend a week with the cadets, live in the barracks and
eat in the mess hall! You will learn about military training and have the opportunity to
challenge your level of fitness by participating in rappelling, Zodiac boats and
combative training.  Applications for this program are due by April 15 th , look for flyers
around the school or go directly to: westpoint.edu for more info.
