Hard at work. Students at the GACTC are able to learn in hands-on environments and work directly with the field they wish to enter. There are over 25 programs to choose from at the GACTC.

On March 26, 2024, interested juniors and seniors will be able to attend a field trip to the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center. The field trip will allow students to explore adult education opportunities that the GACTC offers that students may take after they graduate.

The field trip will leave the school at 9:15 a.m. and walk over to the GACTC. Attending students will return to the school at 12:30 p.m. The trip is sponsored by the AAHS Counseling Office. The students will be chaperoned by Julie Yahner and Rebeccah Anderson.

“It came about because a lot of students don’t know about the opportunities that they have available to them in Altoona after high school,” Yahner said. “We open this up to any junior or senior that wants to go.”

Parental Consent forms were originally due on March 2, 2024. Yahner; however, is willing to accept students on the trip even if forms are submitted late. These forms are available in the counseling office for any interested juniors and seniors.

My name is Eric Weyant. I am a sophomore on the Mountain Echo and Horseshoe staff. I am a bass drummer in the band. When I'm not drumming, I'm playing basketball or cornhole. I'm very good at cornhole. In my first tournament, I placed in the top 5. I like playing with my family in Claysburg, and we enter tournaments together. I'm excited to tell you what's going on in the school this year.
