Announcements for 3/19/2024

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR TUESDAY, MARCH 19, 2024
Attention Spring sport athletes:  There will be an eligibility meeting this morning in the Field House immediately after first period.
Congratulations goes out to Michael Colyer as over this past weekend he took 8th place at the Keystone State Wrestling Championships in Reading, PA.  He wrestled in the 16u, 195 lb. class.  Also, a huge shout out and congratulations to Luke Sipes who took 4th place in the PIAA State Wrestling Championships in Hershey, PA during the first week of March.  Luke wrestled in the triple A, 152 lb. weight class. This is an amazing accomplishment so if you see Luke in the halls, be sure to congratulate him.
Attention students:  Our spring musical is quickly approaching! Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be performed on April 4, 5 and 6 at 7pm in the AAHS Auditorium.  One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors.  This irresistible show is full of catchy songs in a variety of styles, from disco to country-western to calypso.  Student and staff tickets are available now in the student store for $5 ($10 for adults).  Get them now and beat the lines the nights of the shows!
Any current sophomore or junior who may be interested in applying to attend the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week summer program at Lycoming College this summer should email their school counselor immediately. The presenter will be here this Friday, March 22nd and you may attend only if you RSVP with your counselor and receive a pass that morning! Learn more about the program at www.pfew.org.
Attention Seniors:  Are you an orchestra student planning on attending college?  Are you a cancer survivor?  If either of these apply to you, you will want to apply for the Kiera Chirdon Scholarship.  Deadline is March 28th.  Stop by the Guidance rack to pick up an application.
Hello friends!  At 11:06PM on Tuesday, March 19th, winter officially comes to a close! The Sun crosses Earth’s Equator, officially ushering in the Vernal Equinox and official start to spring. The Sun will now spend the next 6 months above Earth’s equator, and we’ll receive more daylight than darkness. And for the next 3 months, the Sun will rise higher in the sky each day. The days will grow longer, as we approach the Summer Solstice in late June. So, we’ve officially made it to the last season of the 2023-2024 school year. Great job to students and faculty alike! And for more exciting tips like this, please sign up for a future Astronomy class in the Planetarium.
Attention Astronomy Club:  Our St. Francis field trip was one for the ages!
Let’s keep that science sizzle going as we ramp up for our two end-of-year
field trips. Our next meeting will be this Thursday, March 21st in the Planetarium from 2:50-3:20PM after school. You will receive permission slips for our solar eclipse field trip to Fort Roberdeau on the afternoon of Monday, April 8th.  Remember, don’t look at the Sun without certified eclipse filters. It will sizzle your eyeballs. Hope to see you there!
Attention students:  The Black Student Union will be holding an interest meeting on Tuesday, March 26th in Mrs. Stephen’s room, A229, right after school at 2:50 PM.  The Black Student Union is a club that was organized and started by students in 2020 to bring AAHS minority and African American students together as a group.  The club’s mission is to increase acceptance of those who are diverse in the school, celebrate history, culture, and inclusion while educating and giving back to the school and community in a positive way.  If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please consider joining the Black Student Union in A229 after school on Tuesday, March 26th.
