ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR TUESDAY, APRIL 02, 2024
Welcome back students! Our 2 nd Annual AAHS March Madness tournament begins
today.
Look for daily emails with Google Form links to the games on which you can vote. For
the opening round, you will have 8 matchups each day! Vote for your favorite teacher
or principal to move on. Votes are due by 2:00pm. Results will be posted to a special
March Madness website, and shared on MLTV the following day.
Students who are participating in our first-ever Online Bracket Challenge can also see
how their scores update daily. The top 5 brackets at the end of the competition will
win a special VIP movie afternoon for them and their friends. The tournament
schedules-along with the large master bracket-are posted on and around the bridge.
Let the Madness begin!
Attention students: The Black Student Union would like to thank those students
who attended the meeting and shared ideas last Tuesday. For those of you who are
unable to attend the interest meeting, and still want to be a part of the BSU, please
sign up for the Google Classroom. The code is hfce4mq. For any further questions,
please see Ms. Coffee in room A208.
Attention Students applying for scholarships: Several deadlines are fast
approaching for a number of Scholarships. There are 3 scholarships with a deadline of
April 8 th and they are as follows: The George Lieber Essay contest open to students
of all grades, The Devon Pfirsching Scholarship as well as the L.U.C.Y. Scholarship.
The next deadline to be aware of is April 15 th for both the Blair County Tea Party, and
the Altoona Chapter of Business Professional Women’s Carol Oberneder Scholarship.
Attention Students: If you are interested in a career in law enforcement or the
military, you may want to stop by the Guidance Office and pick up information about
The Elmer Hafer American Legion State Police National Guard Youth Camp. This camp
is being held at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, PA from June 9 th through
June 15 th . Activities and demonstrations include police scenarios, physical fitness
training, drill and ceremony, forensics, traffic and criminal law, water survival,
marksmanship and team building. During this camp, there will be several $1,000
scholarships awarded. Students attending should be physically fit, in good health and
have a good academic record. Also being held in June at Messiah University is the
Keystone Boys State which is an educational workshop for leadership development and
focuses on municipal, county, and state government. This camp is for young men who
have completed their junior year in high school. Dates are June 16 th through June 22 nd .
More information can be found with the scholarships outside of Guidance.
Attention Seniors: For the tenth year in a row, the Mike Rowe Works Foundation is
launching the next Work Ethic Scholarship Program and giving away another
$1,000,000 this year. We’re looking for hardworking men and women who will keep
the lights on, water running, and air flowing — people who will show up early, stay
late, and work hard to get the job done. It’s not for everyone, but we know hard
workers are out there. For more information, please stop by Guidance to pick up a
flyer!
Attention all Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors: Have you done any community
service work in the past year? Community Service performed for the school course
doesn’t count. If so you could win $200 from The Challenge Program! We don’t
have many applications yet so don’t assume you have not done enough community
service to win. Applications for the Community Service awards are available outside
the Guidance Office. Applications are due by April 15 th .
