Taco Bell is known for their limited-time menu items such as Nacho Fries and the Decades Menu. On Oct. 16, they released new limited-time menu options, all which have a spicy kick to them. They released the items in collaboration with Frank’s RedHot as well as Flamin’ Hot Fritos. Additionally, they released the Mountain Dew Baja Midnight on Aug. 14.
The collaboration with Frank’s RedHot features another limited-time item and fan favorite: Nacho Fries. The notorious Nacho Fries are topped with chicken, nacho cheese, the new Frank’s Diablo sauce, shredded cheese and pico de gallo. While that is a plethora of toppings, Taco Bell offers options on the ordering screens to remove items. The loaded Nacho Fries are the perfect combination, combining the Taco Bell flavors we all know and love with the mild bite of Frank’s RedHot. However, it’s somewhat messy, so eating with a fork or having napkins on standby should be advised.
The Flamin’ Hot Grilled Cheese Burrito (now a personal favorite) is packed with flavor, featuring their signature seasoned beef, nacho cheese, sour cream, their new spicy rice and chipotle sauce. The ingredient that makes this burrito stand out, however, is the Flamin’ Hot Fritos crushed and put inside. Cheese is then melted on top, creating a nice crispy layer on top of the soft shell. The ingredients could have been incorporated more evenly throughout the burrito, but compared to other fast food items, the Flamin’ Hot Grilled Cheese Burrito takes the cake. This limited-time menu item is definitely not a good idea for anyone who is lactose intolerant, but I knew from the first bite that if I was I would eat it anyway.
To wash it all down, Mountain Dew Baja Midnight is a decent option, and it’s a permanent menu item. While not as good as the classic Baja Blast, Baja Midnight is still refreshing. It has the lime hints that the Baja Blast does, but with passion fruit as well. This new drink gets a lot of mixed opinions, as it has a more subtle flavor than traditional Mountain Dew, and with a unique purple color. There is also a Baja Midnight freeze option for those who would rather have a slushie.
