Delays planned Jan. 28 – Jan. 30

Snow day. The Altoona Area School District will be operating on a 2-hour delay schedule from Jan. 28 – Jan. 30.

On Friday, Jan. 23, it was announced to be a FID (Flexible Instruction Day) for the following Monday, Jan. 26. Monday afternoon, the district announced another FID for Tuesday, Jan. 27.

At 12:11 p.m., the district sent out an email let students, staff and parents know that due to the weather and winter temperatures, the rest of the week will be operating on the following schedule:

  • Wednesday, January 28, 2026 – 2-Hour Delay
  • Thursday, January 29, 2026 – 2-Hour Delay
  • Friday, January 30, 2026 – 2-Hour Delay

Friday, Jan. 30, was supposed to be a half – day, however it will now be a full day following the delay.

Fireworks. After a day in Magic Kingdom, park goers got to the castle early in order to watch "Happily Ever After," a fireworks show featuring music and scenes from some of the most popular Disney movies.

Happy Holidays. The Orchestra performed during the annual holiday concert on Dec. 12. The String Ensemble, Vocal Ensemble, Concert Chorus and Symphonic Orchestra also performed.

My name is Madison Aboud, and this is my fourth year on the Mountain Echo staff. I am honored to serve as Editor in Chief for the 2025 – 2026 school year. In 2023, I did an Editorial Leadership training through CSPA (Columbia Scholastic Press Association). In July 2024, I served as a National Youth Correspondent for the Washington Journalism and Media Conference (WJMC) at George Mason University. When I’m not focused on the Mountain Echo, you can find me reading, spending time with friends and family or hanging out with my dogs. After I graduate, I plan to major in English and minor in Communications. My goal this year is to represent our student body accurately and fairly.
