Most Friday nights the football team hosts a game against rival teams at Mansion Park. In addition to the game action, the band front performs throughout the night.

The band front appears in the pregame and halftime show as well as cheering on the football team in the stands. The band front consist of the majorettes and silks.

Junior Abigail Auerbeck and senior Caitlyn Maher, members of the band front, have participated for many years.

“This is my fifth year in band front, and I’ve been doing it since seventh grade,” junior Auerbeck said.

“I joined majorettes for the school in seventh grade but have been twirling since third,” senior Maher said.

Band front members sophomores Kendra Houp and Lizzie Plowman have participated for a shorter amount of time.

“Three but counting this year would be four,” sophomore Plowman said.

Plowman, Houp, Auerbeck and Maher joined the band front for similar reasons.

“I love twirling baton a lot so I decided to do it for the school because I’d love to twirl batons as much as I can,” sophomore Houp said.

“I decided to do silks because going in junior high I wanted to try something new,” junior Auerbeck said.

The band front practices every night except for Wednesday either five to nine or six to nine but most of the time five to nine.

During the football games, the band front members have different opinions on what their favorite thing is.

“My favorite thing about games is cheering in the stands with all the majorettes,” senior Maher said.

“My favorite thing on Friday nights is when we finish doing a routine and how everyone is screaming and clapping for us,” Plowman said.

At times the weather may create difficulties for the band front during performances.

“Bad weather like rain can make our flags too heavy to toss and wind can blow the flags away sometimes,” junior Auerbeck said.

“It’s hard especially when it’s raining because the baton is very slippery,” sophomore Plowman said.

The members have different opinions on how nervous they get before a game or performance.

“I do not get nervous during school performances anymore because I love performing,” senior Maher said.

“I get really nervous before performances but during them I clear my mind and I’m fine,” sophomore Houp said.

Along with having nerves comes superstitions or pre-performance rituals for the majorettes and silks.

“Pre performance rituals I don’t really do anything except keep twirling to stay warmed up, and I just jump around trying to get rid of my nerves,” sophomore Houp said.

“Before each game I always go with the majorette squad and do our cheer, and it always makes us do good,” sophomore Plowman said.

“As a group we will do a cheer before going on,” senior Maher said.

Auerbeck does a group cheer as well.
