Freshman Cassidy takes on yearbook

Imagine being a freshman in a room full of all upperclassmen.  Nevaeh Cassidy is doing just that as a member of the Horseshoe yearbook staff.

Cassidy was introduced to the yearbook class in junior high.  She enjoyed it and wanted to continue.  Junior high yearbook adviser, Julie Storm, recommended her to take the class as a freshman in the high school.

“Doing yearbook in the junior high was very laid back. I didn’t have to do as much, I just basically put pictures and wrote a few captions and that’s it.  Here, I have to help design, I have to take pictures, upload them and I have to write captions that are more in depth than they were last year,” Cassidy said.

All students are back to in person instruction for the 2021 school year.  Freshmen now attend the high school which is different than it has been in previous years.

“Teachers were very kind and offered to help me out a lot,” Cassidy said.

A lot of work goes into the yearbook every year.  It’s a year-long project being worked on everyday.

“If you’re going to join just know that it’s going to be hard and won’t be as easy as you think it’ll be,” Cassidy said.

All things considered, being in the yearbook staff is a passion many students take part in and enjoy doing.

“My favorite part is that we get to take pictures and design,” Cassidy said.

The students attending the high school choose the electives they take. There are lots of options.  Each class can benefit student in different ways and help with multiple skills. Yearbook is one class with prerequisites to join.  .

“It helps with your creativity,” Cassidy said.
