Fighting in and out of school.
Two students sit by each other laughing and talking every period, resembling a genuine friendship. You’re chatting it up seeing how your friend is, like every single morning since you’ve met this kid at school. One morning everything changes when your “friend” starts to beat on you for a “joke” he started, continuing being very disrespectful and hateful to your character. What would you do in that moment when someone is attacking you? What would you do?
The dictionary definition of self defense is “1.The act of defending one’s person when physically attacked, as by countering blows or overcoming an assailant.” 2.”A claim or plea that the use of force or injuring or killing one owns person from physical attack.” 3.” An act or instance of defending or protecting one’s own interests, property, ideas, etc., as by argument or strategy.” Plainly put, self defense is an act taken to protect yourself, should someone attack you.
In our school if someone is attacking you, you apparently can’t defend yourself. Restricting personal rights found in the U.S. Constitution of the “core” interest of self defense goes against our rights. Both students get into trouble. Here at AAHS, you get about ten days of out of school. Both parties are guilty, no matter the circumstances it seems.
I believe we should have the same rights in here and out of school. Personally if someone is attacking me, I’m going to defend myself just as I would out of school.
Sincerely,
Lyza Albright
