This year the girls’ soccer team has been ranked #1 in the state of Pennsylvania. So far the team has remained undefeated throughout their regular season. The girls won their last regular season game against McKeesport 7-0 on Oct. 26. The girls now move onto their District 6 Championship game in early November.

“I’m proud of how far our team has come. We just have to keep working hard and playing the way we know how to,” senior Darrian Berkheimer said.

This year many teams have been greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

I think it’s interesting that we’re ranked #1 in Pennsylvania. It makes me consider how Covid has affected each school’s soccer season and how circumstances might be different if the pandemic never occurred,” senior Sarah Graham said.

With the team not being in a certain conference, they worried their season would be little to none.

The biggest impact of COVID-19 has been the loss of games. Because we are an independent team, we don’t have a set schedule so we lost a lot of teams that are in leagues,” junior Morgan Sarver said.

“We’re independent and not in a conference, so we can’t play teams that are as competitive as the ones in the WPIAL and Mid Penn. We’re still very lucky to be able to play at all,” Graham said.

Throughout their unpredictable season, the team relied on their bond to keep hope in being able to compete.

“Our team has a strong familial aspect. It’s sometimes frustrating being together all the time, but we have so much fun. Many of my relationships with teammates have turned into my most invaluable friendships,” Graham said.
