Intro to theatre classes perform duet scene

For the past few weeks the Intro to Theatre class taught by Ben Cossitor has been teaching students how to perform a duet scene. Unlike a monologue, a duet scene involves working and playing off others behaviors and reactions. It takes a lot of teamwork and listening for a duet scene to turn out.  Everyone in the class was paired off with a classmate to choose a duet scene which they have been continuously working on.  They make their own decisions from what script they want to do, what props they want to use, they even get to decide blocking. Cossitor planned this lesson in a way for his students to have fun but also learn the basics and skills needed to do a scene with another person.

“Up until now working by yourself doing monologues you’ve learned the basics, but you don’t actually really feel like you became a character until you are working with each other,” Cossitor said.

At the top next week on Monday Dec 6, 2021 they will start to perform their scene in front of their peers for the first time. Putting together all the blocking and props while going off script.
