Hello friends! My name is Jocelyn, some people like to call me Jo or Joc, and I’m a senior this year. I have been a Newspaper Reporter / editor (off and on) for four years now. I love to write, and I’m starting to dabble in videography. I plan on making content never before displayed on the famous Mountain Echo and bringing you content you will enjoy. I plan on pursuing a career in psychology after high school and possibly minoring in journalism (low-key still undecided). This year is way different from any year we have ever had, but we’re all going to make the most of it for us and for you! We hope you enjoy all the time, effort, love, sweat and tears we put into every story and video on this website for you. On that note, please enjoy your stay at the Mountain Echo, the official student news site of Altoona High School.

"Reach out for support, I think teachers and guidance counselors and friends are here to support one another and sometimes there's a stigma around asking for help. We don't have to do everything alone. In reality, if someone asked me for help I would be more than happy to help them. It's always harder to ask for help for ourselves, but remembering how I would be quick to support my own friends, students, etc. is helpful. Everyone is more than happy to help in any way possible. I would also say it's really important to make time for self care. We're spending a lot of time online and juggling responsibilities with work and family but making time each day for ourselves and have the mental and physical rest as well. For me personally it's really helpful to find a mantra that brings me joy like a poem, song or quote and repeat it to myself. I always go to poetry, like Mary Oliver always helps me find meaning when I'm going through rough times. For those students who are struggling, I want to validate what they’re feeling. To students who are struggling, I see you. I hear you. I’d also like to emphasize that students aren’t alone in their struggles. When we’re going through difficult times, it can oftentimes feel isolating, making our situations feel even more challenging. However, it is so important to remind ourselves that we are not alone, that we can come to school and receive support, that we can navigate our struggles with the same courage and vulnerability we’ve demonstrated through previous challenges. Either way, it’s essential to reach out for support, especially if we’re feeling alone," student teacher Taylor Young said.

Sticks and stones. Altoona's footprint has been changed with a new addition- the modernized version of the B- building. The construction started around October 2018, and the old building is to be torn down June 2020.
